Incremental vs compressed vs uncompressed
Hi all,
Which option do you use for Web hosting servers. We currently use compressed option.
Was wondering if we should switch to incremental? How safe is it and does it restore files properly in case a clients wants a backup within 7 days, etc.
Your opinions or experience in this regard would be appreciated as we trying ti lower time spent backing up files and load on server.
Thanks

Hello :) You can find the considerations for incremental backups at: cPanel Docs - Backup Configuration This includes: [QUOTE] The incremental backup type only keeps 1 backup. Updated account information is saved to the existing backup. Files replaced with the updated information are removed from the backup. This option creates uncompressed backups. The only restoration available will be the last backup. ALERT! Warning: You cannot restore the account to a time before your last backup. Incremental backups limit your restoration options, but run faster and use less disk space.

What happens in a scenario of hacking / accidental deletion of files and webmaster coming to know of it after an incremental backup has taken place. I assume incremental backup will remove all old / correct files from the backup replacing these with whatever is now there on the hosting server as discretion of hacker. No access to clean files available a few days back? 0 -
Hello, That is correct. If you do nightly backups the files are replaced each night. However if you also have weekly or monthly backups, then you can at the very least restore from one of them as long as you notice the problem before those have been overwritten. 0
