CPanel and Perl
Hello:
I'm new to cPanel, the main shared host I use has there own custom control panel, but I have a project that is outgrowing there capabilities as far as bandwidth, so I am migrating this project to another host.
I found what I thought was a good VPS and Dedicated Server host, only to find that the version of Perl is 6 years old (v5.8.8) and that is causing issues with my scripts.
The new host is saying that they do not recommend trying to install a newer version of Perl, because it will cause problems with cPanel.
They are running cPanel 11.40.0 (build 19), cPanel Pro 1.0 (RC1), and the cPanel Header says VPS Optimized 3. This is a CentOS system, x86_64.
I have looked at the few threads here in regards to Perl, and some say it is perfectly fine, and others sound like they have issues.
Has anyone had experience with installing a newer version of Perl on a system that closely matches what I have described?
Thanks for any guidance you might be able to provide. It will be appreciated.

Hello :) I recommend providing the following document to your web hosting provider: [url=http://cpanel.net/prepare-your-perl-scripts-for-11-36/]Prepare Your Perl Scripts for 11.36 | cPanel, Inc. It explains how cPanel has changed the way it interacts with the system installation of Perl since version 11.36. Note that the version of Perl your hosting provider has installed may also be dependent on the specific version of CentOS they are using. Thank you. 0
