The foundations of a new UX for cPanel
Hey everyone,
cPanel is looking for comment/feedback on a new direction for its upcoming User Experience refresh. While simple, elegant and minimal, the new user interface work will eventually provide a much "closer to the metal" and thus more powerful way of theming/branding cPanel for our customers, much more coherent experiences for end-users to achieve their goals, and screen-size responsiveness so that cPanel looks great no matter the device you use to access it.
That's where we're headed with it and we're taking small foundational steps in that direction by applying what we've learned from previous UI endeavors directly to the product as it stands right now. Expect to see a developer-preview of this theme available in coming releases.

I actually like having the icons big (48x48). Though I haven't tried accessing it yet from a mobile, I'm thinking the bigger icons would make the theme more mobile-friendly. ...

Niiiiiice! I'll bet it looks even better on an #Android. :p I'm checking out the Template Toolkit which looks like the new way branding will be done (maybe?). After almost a decade of the same theme, it's really nice to have a change! 0 -

I would have posted one, but my Android sucks.0 -
Hello. Actually I think the current x3 theme is great, it may look like a theme from the 90' but is very customizable in almost every aspect, in fact, more than a new look I am interested on the core changes of this new theme, the things that can make the cPanel even more user friendly. I'm uploading a screen-shoot of my current skin using the x3 theme, it took me about 2 weeks to complete, mostly because the lack of easily accesible documentation, I ended up reading the code of the root theme to be able to understand it, and even that way, there are somethings on the code that are not documented on any place, at the end I ended up with a very decent skin and an top menu that can be dynamically generated just like the icon boxes. Everything in this skin is done via the branding option (I am not a root administrator) this prove how greatly customizable is the current default x3 theme with just a decent knowledge of CSS3. The only thing I miss from the x3 theme is the ability to have bigger icons, especially now that we have those retina display with resolutions up to 2560x1600 on a 15inches screen (imagine how tiny and blurry can be a 32x32 pixel icon. It will be nice that the new Paper Lantern theme could handle high-resolution icons. .vB .vB That's it, thank you. 0 -

Wow! This is the nicest theme I have seen so far. Please give to CPanel we will worship you. Much better then X3 and much more user friendly than paper lantern Just my 2 cents though. Is it for sale and if it is complete is it 100% complete?0 -
Wow, the new layout looks great! Is it possible to replace the "Cpanel" logo on the top left (via SSH or something else)? Somebody knows the path of the logo file? Thanks :-) 0 -

It really is very exciting news I think. :)0 -
Here are some suggestions. On the "Home" page, remove the focus on the Search input field. - it is frustrating to many as they go to scroll with Space bar or Arrow keys but cannot, until they remove the focus by using Tab or Mouse clicking somewhere on the page - changing the wording to "Enter search words" might be more user friendly, how many know what a "function" means (KISS) On the "Home" page, is the Preferences Table coming back? On the "Server Information" page, is it possible to remove info regarding hard drive partitions? - clients don't really need to see/know that type of information and possible security issue as well 0 -
Still don't know why but the x3 theme seems to easier to navigate. Maybe the lighter text or bigger icons? Can we change the icon size or text color? Still love it though and thanks so much for the development. What about a simple version, something bare bones at first with an option to open advanced tools? I could just create a new simple version and have them change the theme but having this by default might be helpful. 0 -

From the other post/thread that was linked in this thread by InfoPro: [QUOTE]Some things that are now possible: The full capability of CSS3 is now available. Your style developer won't throttle you for making them use ancient techniques. They might even purr a little when they crack open the code and see Twitter Bootstrap DOM structures to work with. Heck, you might even be able to re-use the same stylesheet-and-assets from your company website as a style for cPanel. Don't like our icons? You can now replace it with one you provide...or turn it off entirely with 1 CSS rule. Style directories can now be stored in version control. Simply check-out/clone your VCS repo into the correct place and away you go. Theme and Style management APIs now enable the remote management of an account's Theme and Style settings. If you need to automate the move to Paper Lantern, it's totally scriptable. Plugin maintainers can now deeply integrate their project into Paper Lantern, using all of the same theme and styles as Paper Lantern does.0 -
I'm waiting on the ability to edit header, footer, and add custom CSS. ETA on it's arrival? It seems to be a solid theme, certainly leaps and bounds better than x3. Although, I'm not a fan of bootstrap. I consider it to be clutter or bloat, because your some cases your adding useless elements for formatting, which is un-semantic, breaking the basic guidelines to design. Not to mention it's responsive layouts aren't really that great. Keep up the good work. 0 -

Customizing, or branding as it is sometimes called, is coming in version 11.46.0 -
That is the problem that I'm interested. Really looking forward for this to be brandable. Our website actually matches the styling of the paper_lantern and will make our cpanel interface very snazzy i must say! Do we have an ETA on when we could be expecting this? Progress is looking very good. 0 -
we are targeting Customization support in Paper Lantern for 11.46 (next major release). 0 -

About when can we expect this major update. i would really like to deploy this for my customers but cant until I can remove the old cPanel logos. Thats the only branding I really want to change, I cant mess with perfection when it comes to that theme. :) Thanks for all the hard work on it.0 -
Here pretty soon actually. We had a bit of a delay due to some work that needed to be done on 11.44.1. Look for an EDGE release of 11.46 sometime this week or next. This sounds great. This may be a stupid question, but are there beta versions available for testing? I saw a thread referencing alpha before, but it was somewhat old.0 -
that's what the edge release will be :) 0 -
In the demo does not equal reality :D Unfortunately I did not do the modification because I do not know much about design, whether such source is not given in the demo? :D 0 -
Are there more customization options coming up? I have 11.46.0 Build 14 and have uploaded my logo using the 'Customize Paper Lantern' page in WHM, it's less than the optimal size in width and far less in height but still it breaks the header :( Is there any way to alter the height of the topmost dark grey header bar please? .vB Thank you.
