Backup & Restore Methods
After a Hack of my Site I have a need to Restore my Site with: a) Previous Full Backup performed through cPanel b) Or, a Very Early Backup (Unknown Method of Backup on my PC.
With a) I have used the Backup Wizard Restore which appears to run and present a Message "Restoring Files" on screen and actions appears to be finished, as in, no action apparent and no further Messages.. My Site shows no changes. Therefore Restore failed.
Second Method: Using File Manager (Not Legacy File Manager) Select Home Directory (home/tobruk11/) Select Upload, Browse to the required Full Backup (created from cPanel) on my PC, check "Overwrite Existing Files" Select Upload. A Popup shows progression of the upload, which after a short time, completes. Open up my Site and find no changes made, as there should have been. Therefore Restore by Upload failed.
With b) Used the Backup Wizard with the same results as in (a) above, Failed. Tried with FTP for individual Folders. Had Failures with "OverQuota" issues - Failed.
Either I am doing something wrong or the Backup Wizard and Upload and Overwrite does not work as intended.
I am working at the Frontend as the Owner of the Site and a Novice. Not much help from Host.
I have read a lot of the Posts on the subject of Backup & Restore, but cannot find something that fits my situation.
All I need to do is Restore my Home Directory Folders and Files and my SQL Database, all together or as two separate restores.
I do not know how to get into WHM, I can only work from cPanel.
Can anyone better explain, in a novices language, how I should go about this task, so that I can recover my site and try to indicate why Restore will not work. Thank You.

Addendum: In addition, I have again tried to use the Backup & Restore Function of cPanel to Upload a Backup stored on my PC. I tried to Restore my HomePage first. My Scree eventually showed a message "Restoring File" and then a second message "Encountered a problem" I then tried to use the same procedure to Restore my SQL Database Files, by selecting "My SQL Files" and Uploading from the same Backup on my PC. A Message eventually appeared on my Screen "Restoring Files" followed later by another Message "Restoring Database Backup.........." I am not game to do anything until I am advised the Restore is Completed. There is no Progress Bar or any other Messages to show how much progress has been made or that says to wait until instructed to Close or something to indicate the Restoring is completed. Can someone please answer all of my concerns as I am getting nowhere after a week of frustration and concern that I may have lost all of my work. Thank You. 0 -

You should contact your Hosting Provider about this. Upload the Full Backup to your account and tell him where it is, he'll be able to restore it for you.0 -

Clearly you're not able to for whatever reason. I have to wonder why your Hosting Provider wouldn't.0 -
I have gained a small degree of success in Restoring a Full Backup of my Web Site. I am using cPanel Backup Function to Restore the Home Directory. This ran for about two hours and finally, after the Message "Restoring Files from Backup.........." appeared, a List of Files Restored was presented on my Screen which I had kept open on my PC. Then tried to Restore my SQL Database by the same means. After the Message "Restoring Database Backup........" appeared on my Screen, I kept the Screen open expecting to see a Listing appear after some period of time. Now, after 22 hours of waiting, no such list of Restored Files has been received. The Blank White Screen just sits there with the Original Message. How long should one have to wait for acknowledgement of the Restoration process?????? I think the SQL Database is only about 3.11MB in size. I am not game to go near the cPanel or the Web Site in fear of interrupting the Restore Process on the Server. The Programmers of the Backup Function need to be aware that the Person sitting at his Home PC, cannot see what is happening on the Web Server and therefore there is a need for some communication on his PC Screen, such as a Progress Bar, or Specific Messages, so that he can determine the current Status of the Restoration. The other disturbing thought now is "Has the operation failed" due to there not being a published Restoration List. Can someone please advise me of what I should do next. I will leave the Screen open in anticipation of a further Message of some kind. Thank You. 0 -

Yes, most likely. No need to hold the window open any longer I don't think. Check the account via FTP or cPanel File Manager, are all files in place as they should be or no? Same with the Databases. You can check to se if they made it via phpMyAdmin easy enough. How large is the Full Account backup?0 -

I have had a look at the Site and it has not changed as expected with the Restore. I have checked cPanel and cannot determine where the Home Directory Files went to after appearing to be successfully Restored and what had happened with the SQL Database Files. The Total Disk Space used by my Account is shown as 566.77MB. My SQL Disk Space is 3.05MB. The Compressed size of the Full Backup is 96,467KB. Can you provide an explanation as to why the Home Directory Restore appeared to go OK and why the SQL Database did not Restore as it should have. Thank You0 -
The Home Directory backup doesn't contain Database backups. Your Hosting Provider can restore the backup for you easy enough. 0 -

Hi Infopro, Thank you for your reply. I think we may have a misunderstanding here somewhere. From reading the information provided in cPanel about Backups, a Full Backup, backs up the Home Directory and the SQL Database, etc, etc, in other words, your Full Site Account, Files and Folders and SQL Databasess. Then the Restore Process allows you to perform Partial Restores - 1) Home Directory. 2) Sql Database. 3) Email System, if required. What I have done is a Full Account Backup. Then 1) Home Directory Restore - Success. Then 2) SQL Database Restore - Fail. I do not need Email system. The SQL Database Uploads OK from my PC Full Backup 171113.tar and presents the Message on my Screen "Restoring Files Backup 171113.tar. After that for 25 hours, no further communication. The Restoring of Files has Failed. I have viewed the SQL Database in the Full Backup on my PC and the fact that it Uploads also suggests it was found there, otherwise there would be an error "File Not Found" or such. It is the Restore Files part that is Failing, for the SQL Database only, which was Uploaded, otherwise Restoring Files would not have started. But WHY is Restoring Files Failing??? This is the Question I need an answer for. Thank You.0 -

Agreed. You mention the database is only 3 MB or so, unpack it from that backup you have, click the Browse button in the cPanel Restore Wizard and point it to the databasename.sql itself, upload. Does that work for you?0
