MySQL has announced YUM repositories for MySQL 5.6

Has anyone tried updating from YUM instead of the cPanel Software update for MySQL?
I would like to move to 5.6, but don't want to break everything if the cPanel software update is doing some stuff in the background I would have to do manually after I use YUM.
Thanks,
Chuck

You can do it if you wish - you'd just need to set cPanel's MySQL to 'unmanaged' so that you can manage your own version. Understand if there are major changes between what cPanel provides and what is available in 5.6 - some cPanel tools may not work right [i.e. until cPanel says it's fully supported you're on your own as far as support most likely]. As far as trying it? I will give it a try on my dev server - I'm curious :). 0 -
Thanks, I appreciate that. Please let me know how your test works out. Chuck 0 -
Sure. I have a lot of mission-critical testing to get done this week so hopefully I'll get that done as well as I'm curious as well. 0 -
