Add second NIC for backups (not for customer use)

I currently have several servers in the same datacenter. Each server is equipped with two NICs: one for public IPs, and one for their private network. I'd like to use the second NIC to send backup traffic over the private network from my WHM server to my file server (not running WHM) in the same datacenter. I can't find anywhere in WHM to add the second NIC. Should I just add it manually in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts? I wanted to check in here first just in case I'm overlooking something obvious. I want to make sure enabling a second NIC won't interfere with my primary NIC, which is currently serving customers. Thanks!
