How to restore a complete backup within Joomla site
I choose in Cpanel the option to make a full backup from one of my Joomla sites. After the backup I cleaned the whole public_html. Now the customer asked me to restore the enviroment.
When I use the restore option in Cpanel I see that the backup will be placed in a directory two levels higher than where I have authorization. The directory public_html will not be filled. What do I do wrong or what can I do to fix the customer environment.

I choose the backup wizard option restore home directory. I don't have the option full acount? 0 -
When you backed up the account initially, did you use cPanel to backup the account or did you use an option in the Joomla administrative panel? Thank you. 0 -

If you are restoring a home directory backup, it should restore the contents of the entire home directory to the same path. If this is not happening, and you have root access to the server, please open a support ticket using the link in my signature so we can attempt to reproduce the issue. Hello,i have the same problem,i have backup everthing,i did a restore on everthing,but don't see my files on the file directory,i see only the size on the cpanel.I have admin privilege, like i see it. Thank you,mery Christmas0 -

Depending on the size of the backup, you might want to have your Hosting Provider restore the account from backup for you to insure its done properly. 0 -

Hello, I have done every backup. Now i have done a clean install of joomla 2.5.8 and then do a restore of the home dir,but after a while it's stops to do the recover,can you help me with that? Please it's urgent Thank you0 -

That it's a shared hosting,and he cannot give any details!But he told me that i can restore from Cpanel!Also i have try out many times after +- 200MB it's stops.. the size of the Homedir.tar is about 500MB 0 -

Either he is incorrect, or we don't have all the details of what you asked of him. Regardless, it's unacceptable for him to leave you hanging without any assistance. The backup restore is failing due to that size, I would think. Why don't we start back at the beginning. What problem are you having that you're trying to solve by restoring the account backup?0 -
First of all i did a full backup and also partial backup. Then i did an update of joomla to 3(wron of me),then the site was only white page,couldn't either see admin backend.Then i delete every files and then trying to restore,but with no success,i see it is stopping at 108MB,can it also a a problem with the browser? 0 -

At that point, checking your error log via cPanel, just after accessing the site and noting the problem, may have been helpful. Could be a permissions problem, or a theme/style issue for example. No way of knowing at this point really. [quote="gvanels, post: 1798642"> Then i delete every files

You don't need to restore the full account due to issues with your site. You need to restore the site itself. The site, assuming its Joomla as you posted to this persons thread instead of starting your own, is made up of files and a database. If you have a Home Directory backup prior to updating the Joomla, the files, all files, needed for the site to run, prior to updating, are in that Home Directory backup. You should be able to unpack that Home Directory backup locally on your computer and upload the site files easy enough. You wouldn't have needed to re-upload the entire 500MB of files, just the files the site needed to operate. For example if you've got a directory with 450MB of images, those images didn't change during the upgrade, so they were fine on the server and did not need to be deleted/reuploaded. But you deleted all of it, so, manually uploading them again seems to be required. Using the Restore backup tools are not an option for you as we know. So let's assume you've uploaded all files, pre-update, manually, back to the account. Now you need to restore the database. In the Full Account Backup you did, prior to updating the site, is a directory called mysql. Locate that directory in the backup. How big is that Database?0 -
My msql is 272kb and like i see it it's already on Cpanel,now the home dir .cpanel,htpasswords,sqmaildata....publicftp and ofcourse public_html So public_html to home directory and wheredo i put the rest in? Thank you 0 -

Some of those files and directories are for the system and have nothing to do with your Joomla site. Deleting them was a big mistake. So, your Joomla was a fresh installation (msql is 272kb) with little to no data in it. You upgraded it and it broke. And then you wiped the entire account including public_html/, to fix it? :rolleyes: Just out of curiosity, did you check to see if you have backups enabled in your Softaculous settings? IIRC, there's a setting offered when you're updating a script to back it up. You'd do better at this point to have your Hosting Provider restore the full account for you proper, from his backups. Upload that Full Account Backup you mention you created, to your account, outside where the public_html directory used to be, and then contact your Hosting Provider and explain to him where its at and that you'd like to have him restore the backup for you. There's nothing more anyone on these forums can do for you here, you need your Hosting Providers assistance. GL!0 -
