Sftp: root : filezilla

Hello, I am unable to connect to server via sftp from filezilla as root. Any suggestions? Thanks Sreenivas

  Hello :) Are you using the same port that you use for SSH when attempting to use SFTP? Is there a specific error message that is output? Are you able to access SSH normally through a SSH client? Thank you.

  --- I have had issues with Filezilla and some ftp servers, not Cpanel though. However I have discovered that Filezilla does not encrypt passwords so have stopped using it for my ftp client. Makes sure you use one that not only encrypts passwords but uses a Master Password to stop people using your ftp client if your computer was stolen. On your issue, make sure you know the port number to use. It does connect OK. Cheers

  ---- Please check and ensure that you are able to SSH the server in a native mode. Please check the firewall chain for any deny/reject rule for any connection establishment. As an alternate way please try adding the private key in the filezilla and check you are able to gain access the server. To do this please follow the below steps. In Filezilla Goto Settings - Connection - SFTP Add your private key here, alternatively you can use Pageant from the PuTTY suite.

  This is not accurate. SFTP and FTP are separate services. Allowing "root" access with FTP would have no bearing on SFTP authentication. Thank you.

  I have similar problem, maybe. When I connect via SFTP, I see root folders. Like /bin, dev, etc, home ... . Is that security issue, or this is normal behaviour?

  This is standard due to the nature of how the filesystem works on Linux. Note that while you may be able to view some directories outside of /home, all account-specific data should be restricted. Thank you.
