Do you need a Primary Domain? (How to change Primary Domain landing folder)
See Thread: How to change Primary Domain landing folder?
Dear cPanel support,
I am a Website owner and new (stadard user) to cPanel. (No access to WHM.)
OK, I can set and change the "landing folder" (Document Root) for Addon Domains easily.
But as standard cPanel user, I cannot set nor change the "landing folder" (Document Root) for the Primary Domain.
So I wonder if I need a Primary Domain?
Or can I use a dummy domain name as Primary Domain?
This "dummy" domain will not be registred.
This "dummy" domain will have no entries in any DNS.
Only the real domain names, which will be created as "Addon Domains" in cPanel, will have entries in DNS.
Should this work, or will there be some problems if the (unused) Primary Domain is an uregistred "dummy" and has no DNS entries?
Thanks a lot,
Bob

There is no problem with an account's primary domain not being registered. An account must have a domain name assigned to it, but there is no requirement that the domain needs to actually be registered or resolve to an IP address. We frequently create "dummy" domains on test machines for testing purposes. 0 -
Thanks a lot for your quick answer. OK, cPanel can handle an account with an unregistered "dummy" as primary domain. But in a production environment, with ONLY the real domain name(s), registered and having DNS entries, (created as "Addon Domain(s)" in cPanel), are there any known problems? - Will the access via 0
