Hello :) We do have an internal case open to investigate the ability to send email via Horde from an individual email account after logging in with the account username. For reference, the internal case number is 93161. You mentioned that you are only attempting to use identities and not actual email accounts. Does it work as intended if you create the email accounts first, login to Horde as the cPanel user, and then use the identity? Thank you.

Thank you for the response but with respect this a different scenario, but one which i have been using for years... i have several email addresses from different domains forwarded to one account. i can (or used to) then 1) log in to horde with cpanel email user 2) create identities, including ones for the different domains 3) send replies and emails from the different email addresses addresses, with the identity as the sender this does not now work - all mails are sent from logged in user with reply to as identity hope this is clearer thanks again NOTE: I cannot create all the email addresses in cpanel since some are for different domains.... PS.. ..."Does it work as intended if you create the email accounts first, login to Horde as the cPanel user, and then use the identity?" No - I did try this but it still sends as the logged in user

does anyone have any suggestions on how to use the horde email identities as they used to work? ive been trawling to try to find a solution but there is very little about it - horde documentation and support info is not what it used to be. it is a lot slicker now but doesnt work as well.....shame they dont have a forum. it seems that roundcube does not have this problem and identities are still working there - so perhaps this is just a horde issue after all. roundcube come on a long way since i last looked, but only does email.

Keep in mind that Horde was upgraded from version 1.2 to Horde Groupware Webmail Edition 5.1 with cPanel version 11.42. Some changes are to be expected, and are more so design decisions from Horde as opposed to bugs with cPanel/WHM. Thank you.

Appreciated - and not suggesting bugs in cpanel although it was a decision to make the change. the functionality is available in roundcube so probably a poor horde decision (to change behavior without a config option) however, i am still left desperately needing the functionality - and i do like the rest of horde so would like to find a way of restoring identities functionality - if someone can help ?? thanks

There is another internal case open (93573) to address identities in Horde. However, there is currently no time frame available on when a change might be implemented. Work is being done to implement the latest version of Horde Groupware, so once that completes, case 93573 will be investigated further. Thank you.

I have exactly the same problem as krakastan, Horde worked fine up until this upgrade to 5.1.1 I too require the ability to send emails from different id. The problem seems to be in the code of horde in the section of user, I am fine with CPanel but the horde upgrade is actually a downgrade, this is just one problem. Hope CP can get horde to fix it. Previous versions let you have multiple identities and select them as the sender. Maybe horde can have different loggin and not rely on CP login. Just my thoughts. Thank you

There is progress in case 93573 that would patch this behavior. Here is a quote of what's under consideration: [QUOTE]Case 93573: Updated the identity functionality within horde as so: * Allow users to set the "From address" for an identity via the identity configuration page at Preference -> Mail -> Personal Information. * Update the send mail process to use the From address configured for the identity, if set, or fall back to using the expected email address - when logged in as the cPanel user, this is cpanel_username@domain.com, when logged in as a normal email account, this is the email address.
It's still under review and consideration at this time, so no time frame on any potential change is available. Thank you.

Just another confirmation that this feature was functional before the upgrade - and is still functional in other email packages such Squirrel Mail.... The point of having profile identities is being able to present your email created in the generic webmail as a valid email from your normal accounts... as krakastan pointed out, having a central repository for incoming emails, where responses can be customized for your various originating email accounts is extremely useful... Due to the history and intended functionality of identities, I consider this a bug... and I hope it is addressed sooner, rather than later.... User102

Digging around, I found this note related to 'From:' addresses in presumably a previous version... I don't know if it is still relevant to the Horde 5.1.1 (Imp) implementation... Yes, a change was implemented that will allow users to set the "From address" for an identity via the identity configuration page at "Preferences -> Mail -> Personal Information" within Horde. You can monitor the change logs for case 93573 to determine when it's been implemented. Thank you.

CPanelMichael: When I choose an identity to send an email, Horde does not respect that choice. When is this going to be fixed?

cPanelMichael: You wrote previously "Yes, a change was implemented that will allow users to set the "From address" for an identity via the identity configuration page at "Preferences -> Mail -> Personal Information" within Horde." This does not address my question. I can set the From address for an identity just fine. The problem is when I choose an identity to send an email, that identity is simply ignored. When is that going to be fixed? It worked fine for years. The latest "update" broke it.

Hello :) The resolutions related to internal case 93573 have not been released yet. You will notice the case is not included in the change log at this time: 11.42 Change Log Per the case details: [QUOTE]- Allow users to set the "From address" for an identity via the identity configuration page at Preference -> Mail -> Personal Information. - Update the send mail process to use the From address configured for the identity, if set, or fall back to using the expected email address - when logged in as the cPanel user, this is cpanel_username@domain.com, when logged in as a normal email account, this is the email address.
You will need to wait until the resolutions from this case are released before noticing the change in behavior. There is currently no specific time frame available on when the changes will be pushed out. Thank you.

This is a very high priority for us also. After upgrading cpanel (which included Horde upgrade) all of our clients' horde identities are now being overlooked when sending emails even though they think they are selecting them on the email compose page! Many of these clients have been using their Horde identities for years but are only slowly discovering now that they are sending email from their mailbox names and not the identity they select in Horde compose page. So many of them are unknowingly sending email from a different business or personal name than the one they have selected on the compose page!!! This raises some fairly serious privacy issues amongst all of the confusion it creates at the recipients end. I guess we need to know how to disable identity selection on the compose page so senders are not deluded into thinking they are selecting a preferred From address but what would be better is a config fix so that Horde identities work. I think it is more than a bug fix as it is also privacy issue. I have contacted Horde however they have advised that they do not know how cpanel is blocking identity functionality. Example: The cpanel mailbox is called joanne@retailbusiness.com The user then has identities in Horde: contact@wholesalebuisiness.com and contact@retailbusiness.com When sending a wholesale email Joanne selects contact@wholesalebuisiness.com Unbeknown to Joanne the email is sent to the wholesale client from the mailbox name joanne@retailbusiness.com The wholesaler goes crook as they didn't know that the wholesaler was also retailing... Joanne loses her job. We get the blame for the whole issue... Ouch

Is there anyway we can get this gaping privacy hole issue in cpanel horde escalated? Thanks for any advice.

I have no new information to report other than the changes have yet to pass through our QA team. Thank you.

Releasing new code that breaks critical existing functionality and failing to fix it for so long is so unprofessional. It boggles my mind. Someone should get fired.

Hello, The case is currently closed as Not Reproducible. Developers have stated the following: Not being able to send as another user is by design. We have intentionally patched that functionality out in our Horde packages.

Why then can you create 'IDENTITIES' ?? !! ?? This is a crazy response --- Did Horde intend to remove all traces of the 'IDENTITIES' function? That's not what happened - The ability to create an identity still exists - but it simply can't be used at any time... (Just as an aside - I have regained the ability to use my identities - I suppose, based on the cPanelPeter's response that no fix is forthcoming, that my hosting company corrected this problem on their implementation of the Horde Groupware 5.1.1 version - I did send them the information I provided in Post #11 above - But they are not very communicative about fixes so I don't really know what they did to fix the issue.) Hello :) Peter is referencing case number 93161. Internal case number 93573 is a separate case, and is described in my previous post: Post 18 Of This Thread Please feel free to open a support ticket if you want us to take a closer look at what you are currently experiencing and determine if it's by design or if case 93573 will address the behavior. Ensure you reference both case numbers and post the ticket number here. Thank you.
