Webmail subdomain not working
Since i have WHM 11.42.1 (build 5) version, https://webmail.domain.com gives me ssl error :
Codice di errore: ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR
I tried to disable proxy subdomains and reenable but the problems persists
-
Try domain.com/webmail instead. I do get the same error you do at webmail.domain.com FWIW. 0 -
Domain.com/webmail works but webmail.domain.com was working before i updated to WHM 11.42.1 (build 5), very strange 0 -

SSL Webmail stopped redirecting from non-SSL url Something really odd is happening this morning on one of our mail server. Till yesterday, when we entered in the URL address: webmail.domainname.com we where correctly being redirected to https://webmail.domainname.com:2096 But this is not the case anymore this morning. It gets redirected to: https://webmail.domainname.com WITHOUT the port and so gives an SSL error We didn't tweak any setting. I checked all the "redirect" related settings in WHM and they are identical to our other server where redirecting still occurs. I deleted browser cache and everything but this was not the problem. Any hint will be much appreciated! Thanks 0 -
Hi Koda, I've merged your thread into this one as they seem to be related. 0 -
Thank you mate. Do I have to open a ticket or is there already any "common" solution for this issue? Thanks 0 -
Please do open a ticket if you would. If there's an issue here due to recent updates, it can be tracked via the ticket system and escalated as needed from there. Thanks. 0 -

Hello. Just to shed some light here: The apache error_log has lots of "Invalid method in request \x16\x03\x01" related to this problem and it's tracked back to "ssl request on unencrypted port". Apparently Apache is listening on port 443 but unencrypted: if you telnet webmail.domain.dom 443 and do a GET / , you'll have a "plain" response and that shouldn't happen with SSL: ~$ telnet webmail.domain.dom 443 Trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ... Connected to webmail.domain.dom. Escape character is '^]'. GET / Connection closed by foreign host. Does this help narrowing it down ? 0 -
I think our issue is more that the Rewrite is not happening correctly in apache This is the same for all the subdomain proxies (cpanel, whm, webmai, webdisk and autoconfig) 0 -
Hello :) We have a few internal cases open regarding this issue. Please note the following entries in the change logs: 11.42.1.7 Fixed case 82597: CPanel proxy subdomains use the configured cPanel service cert. Fixed case 97245: Corrected SSL redirect behavior for subdomain proxies. 11.42.1.1 Fixed case 46364: Updated cpanel proxy configuration to work with SSL properly. Could you verify if the issue continues after upgrading to cPanel version 11.42.1.7? Thank you. 0 -
SSL connection error on certain domains Hi There, Until recently i could access webmail.domain.com and access the webmail. But now it gives an error: Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to webmail.domain.co.uk. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) I know i can visit the webmail by going to domain.com/webmail but i would like to fix the problem if possible. So does anyone have any ideas? Thanks 0 -
Same issue here. /https://webmail.domain.tld/ gives SSL Connection Error. Running WHM 11.42.1 (build 5) 0 -
May be you could try upgrading WHM to 11.42.1.7 from 5 and see whether it solves the issue. It may if these issues reported and yours are related. 0 -
Hi, I've tried a /scripts/upcp --force but it is still saying i'm running 11.42.1.5 .. is this due to the mirror I am using, if so how can I change it to one that has the latest updates. Thank you! 0 -
Never mind, I found it is not the RELEASE version but the EDGE version. 0 -

I've updated to EDGE build 11.42.1.7 and after doing a "/scripts/rebuildhttpdconf" and restarting httpd, SSL is now working properly again. No more "SSL Connection Error" due to sending un-encrypted html on port 443.0 -
Good. But dont forget to set it back to release once it is pushed to release from edge. 0 -
Same issue here. Running WHM 11.42.1 (build 5). I don't think we should have to wait for the 11.42.1.7 release to become RELEASE status to fix this. Why has this not been addressed as a patch? I have customers canceling service. 0 -

Why would they be canceling service? domain.com/webmail should be working as expected.0 -
An additional resolution from an internal case has been included with cPanel version 11.42.1.11: Fixed case 97417: Corrected behavior of cPanel proxies seen on certain servers. This addresses an issue where SSL redirects fail when a server's hostname matches the 'cpanel proxy' pattern (started with cpanel|whm|webmail). Note that cPanel version 11.42.1.11 is available under the "Current" and "Edge" build tiers at this time. I suggest temporarily using the "Current" build tier if you are facing an issue with proxy subdomains in order to determine if the issue continues after these recent bug fixes. Thank you. 0 -
Dear cPanelMichael! The update made things worse for me. Before all was well, but now firefox displays "The page isn't redirecting properly" (when I call http://webmail.domain.tld), many clients called me about this. It must be because of this update you have anounced. For about 2 weeks http://webmail.domain.tld stopped redirecting to the webmail, it redirected to cpanel login instead, but https://webmail.domain.tld was OK. Now http://webmail.domain.tld goes to https://webmail.domain.tld, but that displays the redirect problem: "The page isn't redirecting properly" Can you tell me what is going on and when there will be a fix? Thanks, Daniel 0 -

I presume you are using cPanel version 11.42.1.11. If that's accurate, please open a support ticket using the link in my signature and post the ticket number here. Thank you.0 -
whm/cpanel/webmail.example.com stopped working randomly Hi there, So I needed to update my SSL cert, just before I did that, who/cpanel/webmail.example.com just simply stopped working. I have done a lot of research with no results. I tried to restart apache, remove and re-add the tweaks, and even used the script to re-add all the sub domains. No duplicates or anything, just won't connect. I get the following error: In Firefox: SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) Safari: Can't establish a secure connection to the server Any ideas? I have contacted my vps provider for any input, they were no help beyond mentioning wildcard ssl. Now this puzzles me cause I have never added a "wildcard ssl", have no idea what it is, and beyond the need to update the cert nothing changed before it broke. Thanks for any help, Michael 0 -
Re: whm/cpanel/webmail.example.com stopped working randomly Hello :) Do you experience this issue after upgrading to cPanel version 11.42.1.11? Thank you. 0 -
Re: whm/cpanel/webmail.example.com stopped working randomly I am using 11.42.1.5. I have not updated cPanel manually, its just automatic. Thanks for any help. 0 -
Re: whm/cpanel/webmail.example.com stopped working randomly Please try temporarily switching to the "Current" build tier so you can update to cPanel version 11.42.1.11 and let us know if the issue persists. Thank you. 0 -
I have switched over, it resolved the issue. So switch back once this version is upgraded I assume? Thanks for the help, but honest this should be patched fast. 0 -
Yes, you can revert your update settings once this version has made it down to the "Release" and "Stable" tiers. Thank you. 0
