Mail Tweak - "Mail authentication via domain owner password" causing authentication problems

I have a problem on one of my servers when I run turn on "Mail authentication via domain owner password" While I can't replicate the problem myself, many users are unable to send or receive email with this setting off. When I turn it on, the problem goes away. I have verified in several cases that the user was indeed using their correct email password and not the cpanel password. Webmail fails as well as all email clients for these users affected. Has anyone experienced this problem? WHM 11.42.0 (build 23) I had to edit this because I had it backwards.

  Hello :) Do you notice any particular output to /var/log/maillog or /usr/local/cpanel/logs/login_log when you reproduce this behavior? Thank you.

  This is hard to do because people freak out when I turn it off. Don't know how I am going to troubleshoot the logs while a fire is burning.

  Do you still have any logs or log archives from when this last happened? If so, you could search the previously referenced logs for the date/time when this occurred to see if any helpful output is available. Thank you.
