root locked out; no access to whm & ssh
Hi guys,
I recently amended my secirity options in WHM activating security questions and disallow untrusted IP's. After that everything worked fine for a number of days until today. I'm not able to login using WHM as root (The login is invalid) nor SSH (access denied).
What would you guys advise me to do?
PS I don't have an SLA with hosting provider, so they are not able to help me with this and I do not have direct (physical) access to the server as well.
PS 2: I tried using su to access root in ssh but it says something like jailshell not allowed
Thanks for your time!

You may try with another IP so that you will be asked all those security questions all again and get access to the server. Other option would be to reset the password from single user mode and edit /var/cpanel/cpanel.config to make the following changes. It could be 1. I haven't checked the config myself but for in general search for SecurityPolicy SecurityPolicy::PasswordStrength=0 SecurityPolicy::SourceIPCheck=0 0 -

Thanks so much, I'll try that!0 -
Hello :) Also, once you regain access, check to see if the "root" user was locked out by cPhulk Brute Force detection (assuming it's enabled) and add your IP to it's white list if possible. Thank you. 0
