Adding a USB Disk

I am trying to add a 1TB usb drive for backups. If I run fdisk -l it does not show up. I have also install usbutils and ran a lsusb, but it does not show up there either. It works fine in a windows machine. I have also deleted all the partitions off of it before I plugged it into my CentOS machine so I could format it there. Any ideas why it is not showing up?

  Nevermind I'm an idiot. Not even gonna say what the problem was.

  Its a VM so the host OS had the USB disk. I had to make it connect to the guest instead.
