actual user mail size different to reported - how to solve?
So in cpanel a user's email use is shown as:
300/1000 mb
if I du -sh in their user directory (/home/account/mail/domain.com/user] their use is shown as:
959M user
I have tried the following all with no effect:
remove maildirsize
reset their quota
regenerated maildirsize
deleted email_accounts.cache and email_accounts.yaml in the account's .cpanel directory
any idea on how to get their quota use showing correctly at all?
Thanks in advance!

To update, it was determined the additional space stems from the email account's .Trash directory. Once the trash is cleared, the disk space usage should become accurate again. Thank you. 0 -
I want to make sure I got this right, since I have the same problem: cPanel does misreport mail disk usage, by ignoring the .Trash folders. Is that so? This means that users will see their mailboxes getting full, move a lot of messages into the Trash, forget to empty the trash (believe me, we see that every day) and then complain because cPanel reports their mailboxes aren't full. Can this be fixed? 0 -
One option is to browse to: "WHM Home " Service Configuration " Mailserver Configuration" You can configure and modify the "Trash Expire Time" and "Auto Expunge Trash" options so that Trash is removed and does not utilize disk space. Note that the calculation of the .Trash directory will not count towards to the space utilized by the email account.
