Which logs file do diagnose?

I'm running CentOS 6 with cPanel. Ater rebooting my system does not go back up. I was able to boot into rescue mode but not sure which logs file to look at? to start diagnose why my server was unable to boot. Help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  Hello :) You can review /var/log/messages or /var/log/dmesg to get a better idea of why your system would not boot. It's possible there is filesystem corruption that requires FSCK, but you may want to consult with your data center or a qualified system administrator for additional assistance. Thank you.
