Huge mysql memory consumption during backup
During backup mysql memory consumption reached above 1.3G

i restarted mysql .. looked into host.err logfile in /var/lib/mysql .. no errors is showing .. backup is mainly backing up emails .. which is about 20G+ .. all text. site is static no databases /var/lib/mysql size is 75M why is this happening ?
