Hi, 1) b.lastname.ix.netcom.com. Is correct for the DNS zone file To edit default values 2) DNS functions>>>>Edit zone templates. You probably want "standardvirtual" and 1209600 is good!

Thank you, kernow. Pardon my ignorance, but what's the point of having an email address in the zone file if it's not correct? Am I missing something here?

It is the correct format to show the mail address in a DNS zone file. Am no expert on this but believe if the FQDN has a dot at the end of the domain name then the @ is replaced with a dot. Others here probably know more.

After a quick search........Here you go: [QUOTE]Email address " youremail.gmail.com. " This is the email of the domain name administrator. Now, this is really confusing, because people expect an @ to be in an email address. However in this case, email is sent to root@youremail.gmail.com, but written as youremail.gmail.com . And yes, remember to put the dot behind the domain name.

That is interesting, and helpful. Above and beyond, Kernow, that you searched for that! Thanks many times.

Ok, in thinking about this... Some of the online tools report that the zone email address is, basically, illegal. So that brings up two related questions: How/for what is the address used? How is the address reconstructed for this use? Another way to ask this might be, if a message needs to be sent to the address, or the validity of the address tested, where is the "@" inserted? I am thinking that the failure I am seeing might be because the @ is being inserted in the wrong place in this particular address (b.lastname@ix.netcom.com), as the failures I have seen are along the lines that "lastname.ix.netcom.com" is not a valid host. If this forum is not the correct place for this question, feel free to slap my hand. Thanks again.
