Kernal Update

Hello, When scan cPanel using cPanel Security Advisor then it's given me notification that "Current kernel version is out of date. running kernel: 2.6.32-358.23.2.el6, most recent kernel: 2.6.32-431.23.3.el6" Please advise me regarding this. Should I directly run yum update on server. yum update cause any problem on my cpanel account. I never do this before that's why I am not sure about it. Please assist me.

  Unless you're using an auto patching solution such as [url=http://kernelcare.com/]KernelCare you should certainly update your system's Kernel. It's best to follow the CentOS announce lists [url=http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos-announce]CentOS-announce Info Page to make sure you're installing at least any Kernel updates marked critical or important (best to read the notices for moderate as well in case they apply to your system). This can be accomplished with yum update on a root shell, you'll be prompted to agree to the kernel update if one is available. While yum is rather reliable these days and leaves old kernel in place by default, there is always a small chance of something breaking so you're best off knowing what your options are in this eventuality. Will your DC be able to assist you, do you have kvm / console access to the server or VPS etc

  Hello :) Yes, you can update your kernel manually using: yum update
  Note that you must reboot after updating the kernel to ensure it's used. Thank you.

  No, it's updating your system packages. It's not touching files associated with cPanel/WHM and won't change any account settings. Thank you.
