Trouble loading website

I am a new user to cPanel and have built a website for a friend who uses cPanel as a host. Sadly my knowledge and understanding of the system or advanced IT is slim, I can build the website but if anything goes wrong I am struggling! I am using Serif Webplus X5 to build site and successfully uploaded the new site on Monday using the ftp address as on my panel and pointing to the public folder. This was successful and I updated a few pages later that day. Today I have made a few amendments using the saved account details and I keep getting an error message "An error occurred whilst trying to get the working directory from the ftp server" Any idea what I need to do to correct this?

  Searching google for that exact error in quotes, yields many results. This doesn't seem to be a cPanel issue. Here is one of those results: /http://forums.serif.com/showthread.php?t=99718
