All domains not receiving emails from external servers

I've setup a cloud server, domains can send emails and receive local emails (eg, contact forms), but do not receive any from a external server (eg, yahoo, gmail, hotmail). The only MX record for each domain is mydomain.com. 1440 IN MX 0 mydomain.com. and when I use a online DNS tool it says the MX server is offline. How to setup a MX server/records so it can work with the local mail exchanger? Thanks.

  Hello :) Could you elaborate on how you have configured a remote mail server? For instance, did you set it up as a smart host? Is email handled on the local mail server at all, or are you attempting to ensure email is handled on the remote mail server? Thank you.
