FTP access
Hello,
I created three folders one inside the other (i.e. home/Folder1/Folder2/Folder3 and used cPanel's "Password Protect Directories" to create password for each one. Inside Folder3 there is a file that I need to access with a script that collects names and emails from a third party so that those names and emails can be added to the file and edited by the third party. I tried to create a FTP account that only has access to that folder and files within it. The FTP user can access the folder and create new files but it can't modify them by adding or removing file contents.
I tried to solve the issue by changing permissions on all the folders to "full" (777) but the file still can't be changed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, if I posted this to the wrong thread, feel free to move it.
Thank you in advance!
Kind regards,
Saso

Hello :) What error message do you receive in your FTP client when attempting to modify or remove a file? Have you tried with a different FTP client such as FileZilla? Note that you should revert the changes you made to the file/directory permissions. Thank you. 0 -
Hello, FTP client returned error 553 - Filename not allowed. New file can be created but I can't update an existing one. I tried with FileZilla and the result was the same. Thank you for your help. Kind regards, Saso 0 -
Are you accessing FTP with a valid username/password or is this an anonymous FTP account? Do you have root access to the server? Thank you. 0 -
Username/password are OK because I created a FTP account specifically for this purpose. This specific user shouldn't have acces to root, just this Folder3. Thank you for your reply. Kind regards, Saso 0 -
As far as root access, I'm asking if you have root access to this server to troubleshoot further. If not, please contact your web hosting provider so they can take a closer look. Thank you. 0 -
Hello, I believe I have root access. Also, I already contacted my hosting provider and they suggested to change permissions on the file to full which should solve the problem, but it obviously didn't. Any other suggestion would be much appreciated. Thank you! Kind regards, Saso 0 -
Could you confirm if you can access WHM or SSH as the "root" user? That will dictate the troubleshooting steps we provide. Thank you. 0 -
I checked with my web hosting provider and they told me that my hosting plan unfortunately doesn't include any of these options. :( Is there any other way? Thank you very much, I really appreciate all your efforts. Kind regards, Saso 0 -
You will need to report the FTP issue to your hosting provider so they can help troubleshoot the problem for you. Thank you. 0
