MySQL server PID file could not be found
Hi all
Hopefully posted in the right section....
I seem to have killed the database part of my server. All my non database websites are working fine however nothing using SQL is working.
To cut a long story short, I installed wordpress this morning and noticed it was a bit slow so I restarted Apache and sql via putty. Apache came back up right away but sql didnt. I tried a few more times and it just wouldn't start.
i am presented with the following error message - MySQL server PID file could not be found! [FAILED]
Starting MySQL...The server quit without updating PID file [FAILED]b/mysql/myserverid.pid).
After trying everything to get it working again I thought I would do an Easy Apache update to same config. That finished but still nothing working with the database.
I then tried to upgrade mysql via whm (and then ssh). This didn't yield any joy either -
root@server [~]# mysql_upgrade
Looking for 'mysql' as: mysql
Looking for 'mysqlcheck' as: mysqlcheck
FATAL ERROR: Upgrade failed
Running short on ideas I tried to reinstall cpanel using whm (and ssh) but again this didn't work

I have data on the server which I need to keep so I would rather not do a full server reformat if i can avoid it. I didn't get chance to backup the website as I have been building it up and wanted to wait til finished. I can get the html files easy enough but as mysql isn't working I am unable to get backups of the due to the database being down.
My server is unmanaged so my host will not do anything to help out. I purchased Cpanel for the server via them so no idea who I need to mail for any support. They won't deal with support issues on cpanel because it is a third party application.
Any help would be most welcome please.
Oh, should add I have tried several combinations of my.cnf inc a blank one and not having one at all. None of these has helped
Many thanks
Carl

Hello :) What output do you see in the MySQL error log (/var/lib/mysql/$hostname.err) when restarting MySQL? Thank you. 0
