SSL Slow - any ideas?

Hi all, I'm trying to optimize a VPS server which has cpanel on it for a client. I read the following so hesitant to place it on "https://display/EA/How+To+Prevent+CRIME+Attacks" Please inform me if there is any other way to speed up SSL? Client's site has dropped in loading time from 3 seconds to over 6 seconds due to enabling SSL on their full site. Any ideaS? Thanks

  Hello :) To clarify, you notice a three second load difference between SSL and non-SSL access attempts? How are you measuring the speed? Have you tested across multiple browsers, workstations, and Internet connections? Thank you.

  Using tools.pingdom.com and gtmetrix.com Yes tested amongst firefox and chrome.
