No need for own nameservers why nameservers mandatory?
Greetings,
I am installing a new server. In the WHM setup screens i choose 'Disabled' for nameserver software (no BIND etc).
The domains on this server will be using the nameservers from the registrar. DNS for the domains will be kept at the registrar. I use several different registrars for my domains.
Now i get to the next section 'Choose which nameservers domains on this server will use'
I have 2 mandatory fields for Nameserver 1 and Nameserver 2
What should i put in these nameserver fields? What are these fields used for? Since i dont run BIND shouldn't i be able to leave these fields empty? Am i missing something?
As a test i put some dummy bogus (not resolving) domain in the nameserver1 and 2 (bla1.nodomain.com bla2.nodomain.com)
I seem to get no problems :)
After this setup, i create a new hosting account. I get a DNS section with an optional checkbox:
'Use the nameservers specified at the domain's registrar (ignore locally specified nameservers)'
When and why should i check this box?
I see some zone files get created on the server with ns entries using bla1.nodomain.com or the registrar nameserver if i checked the box.
What are these zone files used for?
I hope someone can enlighten me because i don't understand
The account and domain i created with the bogus nameservers seems to be working fine.
intodns detects no problems
Thanks :)

Hello :) The data in the DNS zones does not matter if the DNS is handled on a remote server. Thus, it does not matter what name servers you use, or if you select the option to use the name servers from the registrar. A value is required in order to avoid syntax errors in the local DNS zone. Typically, you should enter name servers that you are using at the registrar in the event you decide to transfer the account or use the cPanel server for DNS at some point in the future. Thank you. 0 -
thanks, one less worry on my mind! 0
