Optimal partitioning for new server
Hi there,
Provided that I've read the the documentation about Recommended partitions and Advanced partitioning, recently I got a dedicated server with CentOS 6.5 and WHM/cPanel pre-installed, with a 2 x 4TB drives on Raid 1 having the following partition scheme:
At first glance I fear that the / partition may be oversized while the /home one may be undersized. Even if I am going to initially use also cPanel local backups (which are saved in the / partition) I think it would be better to have more space in the /home partition which is used for accounts data. Since the server is not yet in production I was thinking about resizing partitions using LVM. Do you have any recommendation about this topic?
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/md2 2.0T 9.2G 1.9T 1% /
tmpfs 16G 0 16G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/md1 496M 32M 439M 7% /boot
/dev/md3 1.7T 712M 1.6T 1% /home
/usr/tmpDSK 4.0G 137M 3.7G 4% /tmp

Hello :) Yes, I suggest using the recommended partition scheme referenced in our documentation. That being said, if you plan to keep local backups, make sure you make a backup partition large enough to handle the size of all of your account's combined. Thank you. 0
