Email goes out through smarthost but can't deliver locally
We have set up a cpanel box to send outgoing email through our smarthost mx.domain.com (a Mailfoundry appliance that works great for all of our mail servers). Mail flows nicely.
However, when sending mail from one email account to another with the same domain, email goes to the smarthost but gets bounced back asking for smtp auth:
Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client. mx.domain.com [2xx.1xx.1xx.xx]:34438 is not permitted to relay through this server without authentication.
Mail goes out fine, but email from/to accounts in the same domain don't. If the email is going to another domain on the cpanel box, it also flows nicely. This has been tested using webmail, so it's not like we have a mail client to configure. How do we get local mail in the same domain to deliver?

Hello :) Does it make a difference if you add the IP address referenced in the error message to the "Trusted SMTP IP addresses" option under "Access Lists" in "WHM Home " Service Configuration " Exim Configuration Manager"? Thank you. 0 -
Michael, That did the trick - thanks! Jim 0 -
I am happy to see that resolved the issue. Thank you for updating us with the outcome. 0
