Remote Restoration Question

Our VPS had to be reimaged. So, I am in the process of following the Remote Restoration documentation. My backup config uses /backup for the folder, but I do not know where on the server this folder should be. We have only used Amazon S3 as a remote backup and nothing local. Thank you in advance for clarification.
