Changing Domain DNS Settings for Nameservers
Greetings. First post here. I have just purchased a new server and am currently migrating cPanel. Once this is complete I assume i have to change some settings with my domain registrar. Now this is where it gets complicated.
I foolishly registered my nameserver domain ns1.myhostingurl.co.uk and ns2.myhostingurl.co.uk. with the same company I purchased my original server off.
So now i have to ask them to make the appropriate changes to my domain DNS settings (I assume point to my new IP) and also when that propagates, and I have checked all is well, cancel my server package with them.
So what i am asking is
1) What do they (the domain registars) have to do at their end?
2) How much downtime will this involve?
3) Can they in anyway get arsey about the whole thing and refuse to change my settings?
Finally I remember we had some problems because I had purchased a .co.uk and not a .com for my nameservers. They might have been making this up because of a silly error. Could anyone evisage an issue with this?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I have tried googling it but the only results i get when i use the words domain and nameservers are how to change your nameservers in your domain control panel.

Hello :) You should check to see if they can provide you with access to a domain administrative interface. Otherwise, you will need to request they update the name server IP addresses to the new IP addresses associated with your server. The other option is to transfer the domain name to the domain registrar of your preference so you can make these changes on your own. Thank you. 0 -
