cPanel Lounge
A real trend has developed of new users posting technical questions to cPanel Lounge, which is really not its purpose. My guess is they find it because it's the first, and only, subsection of General Discussion.
How can we make cPanel Lounge look a little less inviting for new users asking technical questions? That used to be what New User Questions was for, when it existed. cPanel Lounge is becoming a real catch-all for everything, when it is supposed to be for forum use questions and non-technical discussion.

I disagree. Not new at all. There are always some new users on any forum that are, for lack of a better term, too new, or just too lazy to even read the forums list, but know the lounge is the catchall. Most all forums have one (a lounge) and most all forums have new users that will do this from time to time. We're as hidden away, lounge-as-a-sub-forum wise, as you can get already. We may go months before another tech post makes it into the lounge, we might be a week. Not much to do but move the thread. We could move General Discussion to bottom of forum list. Make you read all cats to find the right one first, and then get to the General/cPanel Lounge. If your post fits nowhere else.0 -
Just this week, I've moved five or six technical questions from cPanel Lounge. Moving it to the bottom is the only thing I can think of that would change it. 0 -
To be honest, I rarely see true forum use questions in the cPanel Lounge. Most of the threads are off-topic discussions such as "Favorite Animal" or "Favorite Music". In my experience, a user will send a PM to a staff member if they are having trouble with a thread. A new "Forum Best Practices, Rules and Guidelines" post would seem ideal for forum use questions, which could allow for the removal of the cPanel lounge completely. On this topic, I'd like to point out the "Make your introduction here" thread is the only one that's active in "cPanel Lounge" and this thread does not provide value to our forums in my opinion. I suspect that we are the only ones who read the posts, and knowing that "John Doe" has been a web developer for 15 years doesn't really help me provide a better user experience for him. Do we really need users to introduce themselves? Just my two cents. 0 -
The lounge is for Off Topic comments, including forum help. And, a Honeypot is valuable tool. There's a few threads here in the Mod Lounge that go into some detail about spam, and spammers if you're interested. We won't be removing the cPanel Lounge anytime soon. Do we really need users to introduce themselves?
No, of course not. We give spammers a place to play so we can manage them quicker.0 -
I cannot imagine not having that lounge. These "Hi my name is" posts would be all over the forums. 0 -

I've moved the General Discussion down on the main forums list. Also, you might have noticed when I move a thread, I'm setting the Redirect to 1 week. (there are no active redirects there right now) And adding a message to the Redirect link: [Moved - Wrong Forum] Sort of a silent way for those that notice it, to check where they are before posting.0
