DNS Clustering question - new to clustering

All, I have stood up 2 name servers (DNS-Only) and a host server. I have enabled clustering on each of the name servers. I have also added the 2 name servers to the cluster in the host server. On the host server the DNS role for each of the name servers is set to Standalone. My question is - Is this the correct configuration or should the setting for the DNS Role be Synchronize? Thanks in advance for the help.
