Problem in Mac Mail

I'm getting problem while configuring email on apple mail client. Everything is perfectly configured except outgoing address. outgoing address: mail.domainname

  Whenever i use mail.domainname . I'm gettings smtp failure message from server end.

  Well, unless you're just being generic in typing your post, the proper setting is mail.domainname.com The exact failure message, sans actual domain name details, might be worth posting here for clarification as to the issue.

  Make sure you've set the correct SSL On/Off setting and port number for connecting to the server and enter in your user/password if your server requires authentication.
