SMTP error from remote mail server

I'm having a little trouble understanding the message: SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data Just where is the "REMOTE SERVER"? Is it the sending or receiving server.

  I had already read that and many other threads about SMTP errors and none answered by question. Just where is the "REMOTE SERVER"? Is it the sending or receiving server.

  The "remote" server generally indicates the server you are sending email to, or the server that is sending email to you. For instance, if you sent a message to or from a Yahoo mail server, then Yahoo would be the remote mail server. Thank you.
