Is it safe to have multiple shared IPs

By default WHM allows you to have one main shared IP, then other accounts on their own IP address. However you can goto Basic Config, change the primary IP address, then add or change accounts to your second IP address, resulting in something like account1.com on xxx.xxx.xxx.111 account2.com on xxx.xxx.xxx.111 account3.com on xxx.xxx.xxx.111 account4.com on xxx.xxx.xxx.222 account5.com on xxx.xxx.xxx.222 account6.com on xxx.xxx.xxx.222 Effectively this allows you to share each IP address over a group of domains, even though the method of changing the IP's is a little convoluted (change the primary IP, change accounts IP, rinse, repeat). On the one hand some of the messages in WHM indicate that you should only have one shared IP, and it only lets you change the IP off accounts to whichever IP address you have currently set as the primary - so obviously it's not directly supported. On the other hand pages like Manage SSL hosts list all of the domains, and let you "Make Primary" on one account from each group of domains. So, does having multiple IP's shared like this cause any problems, or is doing this perfectly normal? Is there any reason why they only let you change an account to the main shared IP or a free IP when using the "Change a sites IP address" feature? Why not let you just change it to any IP in the system?

  I should have clarified that we aren't using reseller accounts :) So there is nothing wrong with doing the method in the OP? In terms of the files it sets up it's probably similar to how it works for the reseller accounts anyway?

  The OP hurts my head to think about, sorry. To use multiple shared IPs, you create Resellers and give each Reseller his own IP. Hence the link to those Docs.

  Really? It's not that complicated. You change your primary IP in the basic config, and can change any account to use that IP. Changing the primary IP doesn't change existing accounts though.
