I am uploading a zip file, extracting it and then moving the pieces into place. I have a generic admin folder in the zip but the folders on the website are never named admin so I need to move/copy those files into the correct folder.
You might check permissions on the files inside that zip that you're trying to move. I'm curious why you mention an admin folder. I have found in cPanel - across a number of servers
When you test are you using the same zip file? I'm unable to duplicate on my end.

I frequently update a standard installation that comes with an admin folder named admin. The website always has the folder renamed in an existing installation and that name can be anything. I did just go back in and try moving a file from another folder around with no issues. I checked and the file and folder permissions are correct when extracted on the server. I've been doing this for many years and have never seen this before. I create the zip folder on my computer (windows 8.1) - not online. I've created several varieties of this update since last July but I think the problem started only in the past month or more. The only difference in any of this is that I updated to windows 8.1. I wouldn't think that would change anything. I use winRar for zipping and it's the same one I've had for years.

I'll be happy to try and duplicate the issue if I can, but, I'll need exact steps that I can duplicate it with. Forget the website updates files for a moment and try to duplicate this with some other files and folders. Dummy text files and dummy directories for example. Pack it up in a zip, upload and see if you get the same result. If you do, share your steps to do it.

okay, so I was just in another server and I didn't have the problem. That one is running 11.42.0 (build 23) so it's not updating automatically. My server just updated to 11.46.2 (build 0) so I don't know what it was on before. That makes it look like it is happening with a certain update.

I've got multiple servers on running different versions of cPanel to test on. I did this morning and couldn't duplicate the issue. More Info needed here please sir.

I get an error message (gee, I think this would have been helpful at first. Sorry) FileOp Failureon path.... No such file or directory. As I said didn't happen before, now happening on this WHM version.

Hi Delia, Could you please: Forget the website updates files for a moment and try to duplicate this with some other files and folders. Dummy text files and dummy directories for example. Pack it up in a zip, upload and see if you get the same result. If you do, share your steps to do it.

and I've already proved it works on other versions of whm, just not on this version. Explain to me why you think I'll get a different reaction with a dummy package? Files are files. I do not get this error on older versions of cPanel.

You never answered the question, are you proving this using the same zip file each time? And, can you duplicate it with dummy files? If you can duplicate it, I can. If I can, I'll open a case about it for you. Short of that, please feel free to open a ticket to cPanel Technical Support, directly. Whatever the issue, they can fix it. Good luck with this!

In the meantime, there are other ways to work with your files. A good FTP client for example. Have you ever worked with cPanel WebDisk? Web Disk - cPanel Documentation

I have to say that this problem is now a long way from being a minor issue. Software patches that used to take moments via cpanel can now take hours via FTP. I have a ticket lodged via my host and really wish this issue would get some attention very very soon.

This is becoming a very frustrating problem for me too. My normal workflow of uploading a CMS update zip file, extracting it in File Manager, and then trying to simply move those extracted files over onto the existing files (which has worked many many times before) now generates the FileOp error message. It's saying that the folders don't exist, when they clearly already do. I've checked permissions and ownership, and all is fine there. Let's hope it gets fixed soon!

I just had to patch another install. Hours of uploading via ftp is getting beyond a joke - any workaround for this ???

I've made note of this forums thread within the internal case. The current workaround is still to rename the file in the directory that you are needing to move the file to before attempting the move. Thank you.

Hardly viable if you are updating software for clients with 100's or more likely many thousands of files to replace ?

Instead of uploading the zip, unpacking and then moving the files, create a zip file you can unpack directly into the directory. Say you were updating vBulletin for example. In the zip from vBulletin is a directory called /upload/. In it, you might remove the favicon, images directory, etc. whatever else you don't want to update. Once you've done that, and are still in that /upload/ directory, highlight all files, right click and choose Create zip, or Compress (depending on your OS). Upload that newly created zip file into your forums directory. From the File Manger select that new zip file and choose extract. This will unpack over top of the existing files. (Be sure to remove that zip file once done extracting. Its in Public_html somewhere and might be found otherwise.) You might check your created zip file first by uploading and extracting into a test directory to make sure it works as you expect. Or, use a proper FTP client. HTH!

This issue has two components, clarified below with applicable status updates. [LIST]
  • Case 148245, regarding the ability to merge entire directories: This is resolved as of development build 11.47.9999.148, and will make it into 11.48.1.x, but we've requested to back-port it into 11.48.0.x to try getting it out to you sooner.
  • Case 148469, regarding the ability to move a file into a directory that contains a file of the same name (e.g., merge/replace but just one file at a time): This specific issue is not yet fixed, but we have it in queue for further investigation.
