What is the use of interval Service ?
Hi,
"Interval" service shows status as down from WHM >> Service Status, We have restarted cpanel several times but the service status still down. What is the use of this service and how can we restart or manage it ?

Hello :) That's not a standard service included with cPanel. Review the "/etc/chkserv.d/" directory for a file name matching the service and open the file to see if you can find out more information about it's purpose. It could be a rogue file in that directory, or part of a plugin that you have installed. Thank you. 0 -
Michael, I have the same issue. I checked /etc/chkserv.d and do -not- see the service listed. Crond is enabled on my server but I did not have it setup to be monitored under service configuration in whm (to restart it if it crashes). I added it to be monitored and saved the configuration under service configuration in WHM. Upon viewing service status, I saw crond up and interval up (a new service that didn't exist before). I viewed process manager, top, chkserv.d, crontab -e, etc. and have no clue why this came up after adding crond to monitoring in cpanel. All the dates of the files in chkserv.d were from 2011 when the server was originally setup. I removed crond from monitoring and the interval service also disappeared again. Very strange, thoughts? The names in that table come from entries in /var/run/chkservd. You should check there for errant entries. 0 -
'someuser' is for a suspended website account that was the first account setup on this server. it controls the dns zone for the hostname of the server. I have a second server with this service in the same location but a much older date: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1 Sep 16 2013 interval This server uses crond monitoring unlike the one above and does not show the interval service under Service Status when this monitoring is enabled. This second server is a year older than the server above. The server above is the oldest server we have. The two newer servers from this same company have a couple different services but not this one...I wonder if the hosting company put this here. Depending on what you say, I may reach out to them for further info but they unfortunately haven't been too helpful in the past. 0 -

Hello, According to my hosting company, these servers used to use some old version of cpanel 11.28 prior to being updated. They believe the service came from this legacy version of cpanel that they pre-loaded on servers prior to updating. It only applies to my two oldest servers. Can you confirm? Thank you. 0 -
I don't see any reference to that service in previous versions of cPanel, but if that's the case, removing the entries as mentioned in the earlier posts should address the issue. Thank you. 0 -
I have that same service listed, but showing as running. This is only on one of my servers. However, I can't find any service matching this and there is no configuration files for it under /etc/chkserv.d/ other than it's mentioned in /etc/chkserv.d/chkservd.conf and the files under /var/run/chkservd. Did you sort out where this came from? The server in question is not very old, set up at March 2014. /Tommy 0 -

Are you installing cPanel from a specific image, is your hosting provider installing it for you, or are you installing it manually using the installation instructions in our documentation? Thank you. 0 -
I'm installing cPanel manually using cpanel & WHM documentation. This service is not available in fresh cPanel 11.52 installations. Not sure but I think only older versions have this. 0 -
It's safe to remove those entries from /etc/chkserv.d/chkservd.conf and under the /var/run/chkservd directory. It likely stems from a file leftover on older versions of cPanel/WHM. Thank you. 0
