Servers not listed in the DNS cluster.
I've got a strange problem and I'm hoping someone else might have experienced the same issue.
We have a traditional DNS cluster with all our cpanel servers configured with a trust relationship between our four DNSOnly cluster nameservers. There don't appear to be any problems with the operation of this setup.
The only issue is that the cpanel servers are not listed in the DNS Cluster on each of the DNSOnly nameservers.
I have four nameservers, two of them show a handful of cPanel servers listed on the DNS cluster page in WHM and the other two show "There are currently no servers in your DNS cluster." I was quite alarmed when I read that.
If I login to WHM on any of the cpanel servers I can see the DNS Cluster relationships there. If a zone is edited, it is correctly reloaded on all four of the nameservers.
If I add a server manually from WHM on one of the nameservers, it becomes listed there. It seems the only way I can make sure all the cpanel servers show up on each of the nameservers is to manually add each cpanel server, to each of the four nameservers. This would take a very long time.
The way we normally add new servers is to do it from each cpanel server with the remote access key of each nameserver.
I rarely need to login to the nameservers themselves, so I only noticed this today.

Hello :) The servers are added to the DNS-Only servers automatically if you select "Setup Reverse Trust Relationship" when adding the server to the cluster. However, please keep in mind that reverse trust is only needed if you want to synchronize changes from the DNS-Only server back to the cPanel server, which is not advised. Thus, the fact that you don't see the cPanel servers in the cluster interface on the DNS-Only machines won't cause any problems. Thank you.0 -

Ok thanks. We always use the "Setup Reverse Trust Relationship" option, despite only having "Synchronize Changes" set on the cpanel servers. Historically, all cpanel servers have always appeared in the DNS Cluster section on all the nameservers when doing it this way. But they are not doing this now. We used to see the cpanel servers displayed on the nameservers DNS cluster page as "Standalone" - but this is no longer happening - although there are still a handful of servers listed on a couple of the nameservers - it seems inconsistent, why might that be? What would happen if I deleted one of these rogue cpanel server entries from the cluster on a nameserver? Would I lose the "synchronize" on the cpanel server and need to add it again? So just to clarify... 1. We add the nameserver to the DNS cluster on a cpanel server and choose to setup a reverse relationship and to synchronize changes. 2. This no longer appears on the DNS cluster page on the nameserver. 3. Some servers do appear to be listed on the DNS cluster page on the nameserver. I'd like to get this to a straight edge. I wasn't aware that it was not necessary to use the reverse trust relationship option - so I want to either have no servers listed on the nameservers, or all of them. I don't like things to be inconsistent. What would you advise I do to achieve this?0 -

No, you would only remove the reverse trust relationship, which isn't required because the role should be standalone. That being said, feel free to open a support ticket so we can take a closer look at why the previously added servers are not showing up in the interface on the DNS-Only server. Just to say, I've noticed the same issue here. I have 3 DNS-Only servers. Two had "There are currently no servers in your DNS cluster". The other one only listed some of the full-cPanel servers that they were synchronising with, but not all of them. I logged into that server on the command line, and went to /var/cpanel/cluster/root/config - where the configuration is held. Each server that was clustered with that DNS server had its settings in a file named after the server's main IP address. The servers that appeared in the WHM interface also had a file named by the IP address, followed by "-dnsrole". (E.g., 12.13.14.15-dnsrole). That file contained the text "standalone" (with no line break on the end). I created a similar file for the IP addresses that didn't appear in the WHM cluster interface, and reloaded the Home " Clusters " DNS Cluster screen. The missing clustered servers appeared. That tells you how to get them back. (For what it's worth, the clustering had still been working - you just don't see the clustered servers in WHM). It doesn't explain why those -dnsrole files were deleted in the first place. 0 -

If it happens again, I will. The trouble is, I've no idea why all those files ending in -dnsrole vanished. I only know that recreating them got the clustered servers to reappear in the interface.0
