Yahoo issues and using telnet to test SMTP authentication.
Hello again all,
I would like to test my server mail.mydomain.com and how it connects to yahoo (mta5.am0.yahoodns.net)
The reason for this is the emails to any yahoo account email keep getting deferred for 24 hours.
I have tried to use putty for a telnet connection however it simply closes after a few seconds and i cannot get any results. Can someone shed any light on this and please explain to me the telnet process for this. i can seem to get my head around it.
yahoo tell me to telnet to this host
telnet mta5.am0.yahoodns.net 25 ( this crashes putty after a few seconds)
what would the procedure be if i could get a stable telnet connection?
thanks so much
Chris

Hello :) It's normal for the connection to Yahoo to timeout if you don't send any data. It should look like this: # telnet mta5.am0.yahoodns.net 25 Trying 63.250.192.45... Connected to mta5.am0.yahoodns.net. Escape character is '^]'. 220 mta1512.mail.gq1.yahoo.com ESMTP ready Connection closed by foreign host.
It's simply how Yahoo has configured their mail servers. If your messages to Yahoo are deferred then you should review their help page at:0
