Errors in apache log

Hi I have lot of errors in apache log reported below. Client 184.172.55.136 is looking for directories in my pages. What is a spider? I have to ban?   Hello, It's likely a bot that's scanning your websites for specific directory and file names. You can block the IP address in your firewall to prevent further attempts from that IP. Thank you.

  Spider is actually a web crawler. It is an internet bot that browses the World Wide Web for web indexing. Web crawlers will copy all the pages they visit for search engines so that client/customers/users can search your website quickly. You can find where the IP address [184.172.55.136] is originated and check if it is suspicious, then you can block the IP or ask assistance to your host.
