question about backup options
Hello,
I'm wondering about two backup options that I don't understand in depth. I run weekly backups of all the accounts I host (I never exclude users for backuping).
1) we can check "use local DNS" or not. I understand the explication given but I can't imagine if it's a good idea to check this or not... Is there situations where I clearly have to check this and other situations where I clearly have to have this UNchecked ??
2) Same question for "backup SQL databases" : I understand that I have to check "Per Account Only" to have a backup of SQL databases of each user but when would I prefer to check "Entire MySQL Directory" or "Per Account and Entire MySQL Directory" ??
Many thanks for your help !

if your using a dns only cluster it would only copy the local zones and not necarrly the newest most situations you would want to leave this unchecked If you use a DNSONLY cluster, the pkgacct script examines all of the DNS zones in the DNS cluster to find the record with the newest serial number. It then stores that DNS zone in the backup. By default, backups are cluster-aware and pull the account's zone from the DNS cluster itself. To pull the account's zone from the local machine, enable the Use Local DNS option in WHM's 0 -
I don't know what is a "DNSONLY cluster"...I think it means that I don't use such thing... :-) Well, the answer of my question about MySQL directory depends on the situation, of course... But that doesn't help me to understand when to do a choice or the other... Could somebody be more explicit, allowing me to understand and learn something about this ? Thanks again ! 0 -
I will do entire mysql directory, backed up to a network nas, or ftp. (at least autobackup every 24 Hrs). DNSONLY from cpanel are separated dns servers you can have to manage your dns outside the cpanel server and work with cluster environment, then can be backed up as well 0 -
Hello, You can leave "Use Local DNS" disabled if you don't use a DNS cluster. It's likely a good idea to backup the entire MySQL directory and backup MySQL databases per account, unless you are limited on backup space. Thank you. 0 -
Thank you very much for your answers ! :-) 0
