Changes to MX records that I didn't make?
I had a customer contact me today stating that he hasn't had email for 4 days (since some point on Friday, March 20, 2015).
I checked the MX records (he uses Rackspace for email) and the MX records were somehow changed (for all three accounts on my server using Rackspace).
Previously they were correct, and the customer had no email issues:
mx1.mailsrvr.com
mx2.mailsrvr.com
Now they showed:
mx1.mailsrvr.com.domain.com
mx2.mailsrvr.com.domain.com
or
mx1.mailsrvr.com.domain.net
mx2.mailsrvr.com.domain.net
On the day the issue happened, I see this in my log:
zone domain.com/IN/external: domain.com/MX 'mx1.emailsrvr.com.domain.com' has no address records (A or AAAA): 2 Time(s)
zone domain.com/IN/external: domain.com/MX 'mx2.emailsrvr.com.domain.com' has no address records (A or AAAA): 2 Time(s)
I use Softlayers DNS. So I am not sure if something happened on their end, or something happened on my WHM server.
I am very concerned of it happening again.
Any help would be appreciated.
Jeff
Edit: it appears I missed the trailing "." after I had set the MX entries in WHM. I had just setup DNS clustering to update Softlayer's records on Thursday, so apparently these MX entries were appended with the host name when DNS synchronized.

Hello, Yes, it's important to use periods after the entries to avoid having the domain name appended to the end of the entry. Thank you.0
