Hello, Try unchecking "Restricted Restore" under "WHM Home " Backup " Restore a Full Backup/cpmove File" if it's a trusted server you downloaded the backup from. More information on restricted restorations is found at:

Hello, Sorry to bump an old thread. I have received a full backup file (tar.gz) from my outgoing provider to restore to my new server. However, I get the same inappropriate symlink error (restore fails) even though Restricted Restore is not checked. Extracting the archive reveals accesslogs@ and www@ symlinks only. How do I bypass this error please?

Hello :) What method are you using to restore the account? Thank you.

Hello Michael, I didn't get a notification alerting me to your response to my query. I was using the cpanel restore fullbackup/cpmove file method. I however solved the problem by extracting the cpanelmove file, restoring that, then manually extracting and copying over the rest of the data into the user account folder. That worked fine after I updated all the file/folder permissions appropriately. I suppose a simpler method would have been to extract the full backup file, delete the symlinks and re-tar.gz it. But the restore process fails if done this way.

I'm happy to see you were able to address the issue. It's possible the archive you were provided was not generated successfully on the source server. Thank you for updating us with the outcome.
