installing phpunit

I have a customer who requested phpunit to be installed. I tried 2 different instructions for installation. shiftedbytes.com/2011/11/installing-pear-phpunit-on-cpanel.html But it looks like this way to install was end of life github.com/sebastianbergmann/phpunit/wiki/End-of-Life-for-PEAR-Installation-Method I have also tried to install this way phpunit.de/manual/current/en/installation.html But had no luck with this either. Is PHPunit still available or am I doing something wrong? Any help would be great. I do not get any error messages. Once completed I try and run php phpunit.phar --version I do not get anything back. Has anyone installed this recently and how did you install it.
