AWS EC2, my first time installing WHM, can't edit dns zones "error loading the zone ..."

Hi, Been learning this server stuff for the last week and i've come to a complete stop on dns zone setup and ip routing... Deleted, reset, recreated dns zones all show up "Unable to parse zone: There was an error while loading the zone..." when i try to edit them I have one main server (ec2 instance centos 6.6) with a trial of WHM/cPanel setup and one dnsonly nameserver (ec2 instance centos 6.6). I've been using route 53 (aws dns zone manager) during this whole process but i can't get the rDNS to work so emails don't go to spam. (even though intodns.com reports "You have reverse (PTR) records for all your IPs, that is a good thing.") Thats why i'm trying to get my private nameservers working instead. running /scripts/ipcheck --verbose gets me: "The hostname resolves to "my elastic ip". It should resolve to "local vpc ip". Been trying to find a full tutorial of setting up WHM/cPanel on AWS EC2 but I've only been able to find partial ones that don't cover the whole process. Any suggestions ? also got the main server and nameserver paired in the DNS Cluster page of WHM status 11.48.2.3 Thanks for reading! Cheers, Nick

  update! apparently using a "+" in the email of your server contact information causes the dns template to output a "." instead of a "@" symbol e.g. nick+server.host@gmail.com[/EMAIL] generates this dns line nick+server.host.gmail.com ?? edit: still a dot instead of @.. but it is now editable so i guess it was just the + symbol that was causing issues still working out the ip routing stuff :(
