separate databases question

I have a social networking site for seniors and am thinking about adding a second chat room for my members. I have a dedicated server from Fasthosts and the site runs really quickly at the moment and am keen to keep it that way. This may seem like a simple question but would I be better having a completely separate database for the chat room or could it just have tables in my existing Joomla 3 database? At present I use and externally hosted chat room, 123 Flash Chat so there is no load on the server. Thanks in advance, Mike
