    Hello, You will likely need to have removable media inserted into the server (e.g. CD/DVD/USB Drive) to erase and overwrite the existing data. The following third-party URL expands upon this:

    Thank you both. I do not have physical access to the server but will examine both suggestions. The current intention is to leave an empty /home partition that has been zeroed, an unmounted and zeroed backup drive, along with a lack of logs in a functioning cPanel install. Failing that, I'll melt it down remotely or obliterate from orbit :).

    If you trust your data center you could check their policies. Many of them will wipe the drives and physically destroy them after you cancel the server. Otherwise your plan seems pretty good. The GNU shred command is very good for obliterating individual files or drives when used correctly.
