Cannot start ftpd

I just upgraded cpanel and now ftpd refuses to start. I discovered this because cpanel keeps sending me emails saying, FILED: ftpd When I try to manually restart ftpd, I get this error: pureftpd has failed. Contact your system administrator if the service does not automagically recover. Full graceful server reboot does not solve the problem. I even tried reinstalling the cpanel update but to no avail. *FAILED

  What output do you get when you run the following:
  # service pure-ftpd restart

  What output do you get when you run the following:
  # service pure-ftpd restart
  

  
  I already told you it results in the error I posted above

  There is more info that should be printed when you run this command as root on your server; information that will help us narrow down the issue. Can you run the command above, and post the entire output here? Anything sensitive can be removed.

  In your output, I do not see a failed attempt, however when you run that command, you do not see output like the following in the process list?

  That example is from a test server running 11.50.0.12 If you do not see it in the process list, we will need for you to submit a ticket regarding this so we can see why this might be happening.

  I gave you a copy and paste. It cuts off instead of restarting.
