cPanel access_log (what does "proxy" mean)

Can anyone explain to me what it means you get a "proxy" username in the access_log like this:
x.x.x.x proxy mail@domain.com [DATE] "etc"
Instead of a regular username like this:
x.x.x.x - [DATE] "etc" "-" "-"
?

  Hello :) It typically indicates the IP address making the connection is a proxy. You can search for "proxy server" to get a better idea of how a proxy works if you are not familiar with it. Thank you.
