Drive crital /temp is 100% full

I have two issues: /tmp /var/tmp 100% (51,583,708 of 51,606,140) /dev/mapper/vg00-lvroot / 100% (51,583,708 of 51,606,140) This seemed to have happened overnight as I set the backup system to backup my files via FTP. I ran the secure temp script and installed tempwatch and set the crontab-e for every hour,,,but nothing is happening, I even changed the default sql temp directory. So, my question is: Can i simply delete the entire /var/tmp directory? and same goes for the other? If not then does anyone have any suggestions that could resolve this issue rapidly? Thank you.

  Figured it out. Turns our the client that had this issue put the backups in the wrong place and caused all sorts of mistake. Thanks anyways.
