Global MX records

Hi This may be the wrong area for this as it's a dns issue as much as an email one. I have a customer that is moving their hosting away from us with the exception of the email. They gave their new host access to the domain and they changed the nameservers without considering that the email would stop working without the right mx records. I've asked them to set up an a record for mail.domain.com and point the mx record to that. However I'd prefer to set up a global mx record such as mx.servername.com or preferably mx1.companydomain.com. Is this just a case of setting up an a record for the domain or are there other settings I need to do to make sure it works properly? Also what should I recommend as the priority for this?

  Hello :) Yes, simply setup the "A" record so it resolves to your server's IP address and it's then usable for MX records. Mail is delivered to the server with the highest priority first, so a standard entry of "10" is acceptable (though "0" would work too). Thank you.
